Katie Couric is reportedly ready to leave the anchor desk of the "CBS Evening News." According to the Associated Press, a network executive said Couric will step down and is expected to host her own syndicated talk show starting in 2012.
Couric left "The Today Show" in 2006, and became the first woman appointed to anchor a network nightly newscast solo. But since she took over the anchor desk, Couric hasn't been able to pull CBS out of last place in the ratings, finishing behind NBC and ABC.
Ongoing contract discussions have been happening between the network and Couric, according to a CBS spokeswoman. "We have no announcements to make at this time. Until we do, we will continue to decline comment on rumor or speculation," CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair told the AP on Sunday.
Couric's CBS News contract expires on June 4.
