NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick and his wife escaped with minor injuries Monday when the small jet they were traveling in lost its brakes upon landing and crashed beyond the runway at an airport in Key West, Fla.The Associated Press reported that the plane ran off the runway at Key West International Airport and also past a 600-foot safety area built in May. The plane came to a stop largely intact 100 feet beyond the safety area.Taken to a local medical center were Rick and Linda Hendrick, the pilot and co-pilot, according to the report. The plane is registered to Jimmie Johnson Racing II Incorporated in Charlotte, N.C., the report said.Hendrick lost his son Ricky, a brother and twin nieces in a crash of a plane he owned outside Martinsville, Va. in 2004.Hendrick owns Hendrick Motorsports, which has dominated NASCAR for nearly a decade. The team features five-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, four-time champion Jeff Gordon, highly popular Dale Earnhardt Jr. and veteran Mark Martin.
