Gary Johnson Wins Line of the Night at GOP Debate (VIDEO)

Former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson had the line of the night when he joked about dogs creating more “shovel-ready” jobs than President Obama at Thursday night’s Republican debate.

Johnson, who identifies as a libertarian, didn’t get many chances to speak during the two-hour Fox/Google sponsored debate, but delivered the zinger of the night when he got the opportunity.

“My next-door neighbor’s two dogs have created more shovel-ready jobs than this current administration,” Johnson told the audience.

The audience and other Republican candidates praised Johnson for his creative line, though the candidate would later admit that he got the line from Rush Limbaugh.

Johnson said on Twitter, “I understand Rush Limbaugh made the same point. Credit to Rush for a great and true line.”

Johnson had been absent in recent Republican debates due to low polling numbers, but earned an invite to the debate after polling at a consensus 1 percent. Johnson is known for wanting to legalize marijuana and opposition to a border fence, as well as for his passion for outdoor sports.

The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza wrote after the debate that Johnson “still has no chance to be the Republican nominee but deserves credit for a heck of a zinger.”

Whether this will help Johnson poll above his current numbers and become a more viable Republican candidate is unknown, but it did help Johnson garner some much needed media attention.
