CLEMSON, S.C., Sept. 17 (UPI) — Clemson snapped defending national champion Auburn’s 17-game winning streak Saturday with a 38-24 win over the 21st-ranked Tigers.
Tajh Boyd threw 386 yards and four touchdowns for Clemson (3-0), including two to Sammy Watkins in the third quarter.
The win also snapped Clemson’s 14-game losing streak to Auburn (2-1).
Michael Dyer had 16 carries for 151 yards and two TDs for Auburn. Barrett Trotter was 12-for-25 for 198 yards and a touchdown.
Auburn jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on Dyer’s 52-yard touchdown run and a scoring pass to Emory Blake.
But Clemson roared back with 21 points in the second quarter and held Auburn to a field goal in the second half.
Clemson’s offense generated 32 first downs to Auburn’s 19 and held the ball for 36 minutes, 15 seconds, roughly 12 minutes more than Auburn.
